The Best Grilling Accessory You’ll Ever Buy for your Primo Oval XL.

Nobody wants a burnt or dry meal. Flare-ups can quickly ruin any backyard cookout. At GrillGrate, we believe that grilling should be easy, fun, and stress free – every time. All you need is GrillGrates for your grill.

GrillGrates provide protected, high-heat grilling on kamado grills. The bottom plate blocks hot rushing air and flames from charring and drying out food, keeping the juices sizzling with the food instead of feeding the flames. GrillGrates for kamado grills are used on top of the existing grate surface. Every set comes with a GrateTool which is part fork, part spatula that fits between the rails to get under your food and lift it without scraping. Here’s why:

  • Non-stick Hard Anodized Aluminum Interlocking Panels
  • Two-in-One Surface; Rails Side Up for Traditional Grilling & Flat Side for Flat Top Griddling
  • Rust Resistant Material

  • Faster cooking
  • Simpler grilling with better results
  • Reduced flare-ups
  • Versatility
  • Easy to use and clean
  • Light and transportable

Your Grill, But Better. As opposed to traditional grill surfaces that merely just hold the food above the heat source, GrillGrates concentrate heat through the patented raised rail design cooking food faster and more evenly. GrillGrate’s air flow vents and flat side work together to trap grease, prevent charring, and block those pesky flare-ups that tend to engulf and dry out food. When we say better, juicier food every time – we mean it! It is central to the innovative design of this grate. The sizzling-hot valleys vaporize drippings and juices, retaining moisture and enhancing flavor.

Want to make the most of your Kamado grill?

GrillGrates are your secret weapon for easy, stress-free and fun kamado grilling. More control and flexibility are two reasons why kamado grillers call GrillGrates an essential accessory for GrillMasters. Reversible, interlocking panels sit on top of your existing grates, acting as a flame shield to allow for protected, direct grilling at higher temperatures. The non-stick hard anodized aluminum grates even out hot and cold spots, help you gain control of your entire cooking surface, and produce juicier, more flavorful food. See our top techniques for making the best of these features here.

QUICK TIP: We do NOT recommend covering the entire surface of your Kamado with GrillGrates, as they could trap too much heat. This is why you'll notice our Kamado sets are made to accessorize the existing grill surface, not replace it.

BONUS: Use GrillGrates rails up for traditional grilling, or flip them over for masterful flat top griddling. When you're done cooking on GrillGrates, cleaning your grill surface is easier than ever.

Group 393-2

Never burn a steak again. The flame shield eliminates flare-ups. And the raised rails deliver the perfect sear.

GrillGrates can be configured to your needs. Create independent heat zones by separating the grates. Even flip over for an instant griddle!

Made from anodized aluminum, these grates will never rust out. When properly seasoned, they are non-stick and easy to clean.

I have a grillgrate for my Fast Eddie pellet smoker and now when I grill steaks the heat is even all the way across and with a few pellets on the top of grate it add a lot of flavor!!! I move the grill grates to my Primo XL and drop four stainless pins through two holes on one end then two on other end the grates don’t move at all !!! I am thinking about buying the grill grates for my Primo to fit it correctly but haven’t got there yet, it will just give me more surface area when grilling on my Primo it’s my favorite unit to cook on!!! Oh I also have purchased these for Christmas presents they make great ones!!!

I love my grill grates. They’ve become my replacement grates for my Webber Summit. The only problem is on my Primo when I set them on top of the grates. They slide pretty easily and the lip of the grill isn’t high enough to stop them. Just something to be mindful of…

GrillGrates are as awesome as my Primo Ceramic grill! They have made grilling and even low temperature cooking much more consistent by evenly magnifying the heat across the grate and for getting those professional sear marks/flavor bars. I can now use every inch of my grilling surface with confidence in knowing my food will cook more evenly and flare-ups are a thing of the past. By design, their infrared and flavor enhancing capabilities is proven by producing consistently juicy steaks and burgers with less shrinkage. I believe all new and old grills should be equipped with GrillGrates. They are portable and I take them with me to use on my relatives charcoal and gas grills. They all believe I’am a Master griller, which is why you should invest in GrillGrates, a good meat thermometer and timer. You’ll never go back to anything else! Thanks for a great invention! The only recommendation I have would be to come up with a way to lock them down to the existing grates. Possibly a spring loaded hook going through one of the forward drain holes in each panel may work.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the GrillGrates. These have been a great addition to my Primo XL. They are awesome for grilling and searing. They get really hot and prevent flare-ups. When I am reverse searing steaks, I like to place the flat side of the panel up.

I have also found they are nice to install between the deflector plates and the OEM grates during a low and slow cook (around 220°F). I place the meat on the OEM grates, but when the drippings start running off the meat, you can hear the “flavor bombs” sizzle when they hit the GrillGrates.

After using my GrillGrates several times, I decided to order an 18.5” gap panel. For my grill, this worked out perfect. Now the GrillGrates span across both sides of the fire box when they are all interlocked . And when I am doing a reverse sear, I only use half of the panels, so the additional 1.125” in length over the panels in the kit gives me piece of mind that I will not accidentally drop my GrillGrates into the firebox.
