Pancakes on the Grill

February 13, 2024

Whether you’re celebrating Mardi Gras, Shrove Tuesday or plain ol’ Pancake Day, it’s time to get to the grill and whip up some pancakes.

Start by preheating your grill, with your GrillGrates on. We’ll be using our GrillGrates on the flat side (rails down) for our pancakes. Never fear, the batter won’t drip through the holes as long as your grates are hot enough! If you’re using a gas grill, set it to a medium-high heat. If working with a charcoal grill, open the vents wide to let oxygen in and fuel the fire, then let the coals burn for at least 20 minutes until they ash over.

While your grill is preheating, whip up a batch of your favorite pancake batter. You could go for a classic, something fruity, something chocolatey or even something savory. If you prefer, use a pre-made pancake mix or even a boxed cake mix (if you’re feeling decadent). Cover the bowl with a dish towel or foil while you finish waiting for your grill to preheat. Once your grill is up to temperature, test it by flicking a little water onto your GrillGrates. If the water dances and evaporates away, it’s time to make pancakes!

Pour on your batter using a measuring cup or ladle, making sure to pour out equal amounts of batter to ensure your pancakes are all the same size (for that perfect stack)! Once your poured out batter is bubbling at the edges, you should be good to go ahead and flip your pancakes with your GrateTool. Remember to save some room on the grill for eggs, bacon and sausage too!

We love loading up our pancakes with all kinds of toppings, here are some of our favorites:

Butter and maple syrup (a classic!)

Whipped cream and fresh berries

Lemon zest and butter

Bananas and fresh caramel sauce

Granola and greek yoghurt

Nuts, chocolate chips and ice cream
